My father was in the Air Force, served his country with honor during WWII, and beyond.
My husband's uncle was in the Army, served his country with honor during the Korean Conflict.

I am so glad that they both have passed away and are not witnessing this current issue with a retired General, who should have known better, but DIDN'T!

Home to Harmony series by Philip Gulley

I am currently re-reading (for the 6th or 7th time) Philip Gulley's  Home to Harmony (book 1 in the Harmony series, published in 2002).

Philip, a Quaker minister himself, writes the delightful series about Sam Gardner, a Quaker minister in the fictional town of Harmony, Indiana. 

In Chapter 10 - This Callous Pride - Sam is having to confront (not something he ever likes doing, especially if it is going to a have negative effect) Bob Miles, Sr., former editor of the Harmony Herald, about his behavior during the Quaker Sunday Meeting - as I was reading this paragraph, I thought how prophetic, it was considering our current President, and to think it was written 16 years ago! 
    "He got ready to say something, but I didn't let him. I went on. "You want everyone to do things your way and when they don't, you throw a fit. You talk about how this is the land of the free, but you really don't want anyone to be free. You want everything your way. And that makes you a tyrant."

Needless to say, I sat up in bed and thought, Gee Philip, you hit the nail on the head, did you know that we were going to have a "leader" who would behave this way?

If you are indeed tired of all the unpleasantness going on these days, may I suggest Philip's books  Harmony Series, and then his most recent series, Hope (Sam and his wife Barbara move to the community of Hope).  They are easy to read, life up the spirit, add a bit of humor, heartache at the same time.  However, they do one always for me - bring me back to the peaceful, loving Spirit of the Lord.

Footnote, having recently read the "Buddha" series by Roland Merullo - first being Breakfast with Buddha, the thought crossed my mind, how similar the Quakers and the Buddhists are in their peace and quiet beliefs of faith.
