The Devil's Knot, a film by Atom Egoyan
Atom Egoyan has taken a very difficult story and crafted a thoughtful film. The subject matter is at times very difficult to watch, but very mesmerizing.
Based on a true story about the disappearance and deaths of 3 young boys in a small town in Arkansas, we follow the horrific tale, we are given a view of the ineptitude of the local law enforcement. The Judge, the prosecution, the jury all seemed to be bent on the guilt of the 3 teenage boys who are accused of the crime, without looking into any evidence brought forth by a private investigator who provided his services "pro bono".
The three defendants (all under the age of 19) are accused of "devil worship". In 2011, all three were released from prison after almost 20 years in prison. Their story was recently discussed on NPR, at about the time this film was released.

Chef, a movie
Chef, a movie.
We watched this one last night.
Carl Casper, chef at a really trendy place in LA (owner Dustin Hoffman) gets a really crummy review. Carl, who is a dinosaur of tech stuff, relies on his son to get him on Twitter - what a disaster (well, in the long run maybe not).
Carl and his ex wife go "rounds" over his less then great parenting with his son.
Trip to Miami solves lots of issues, after Carl loses his job.
If you enjoy watching food reality shows, and enjoy eating - who doesn't? - this is a really fun movie to watch. Food preparation is really top notch, one can almost smell what's being prepared.
Music lover? Great Cuban music starting in the Miami scenes.
Hope you will consider.
Forewarning, if you ever watch any of Gordon Ramsey's shows, you know there is lots of the F-word and others, this it seems is part of the food preparation culture.

"A Most Wanted Man" a film
A Most Wanted Man
Philip Seymour Hoffman's final film.
We watched this film last night. Usually when we start a film "late" in the evening, we generally only watch the first half, then finish the next evening. Not so with this film.
Philip truly gave a riveting performance as Gunter Bachmann, a German intelligence agent on the trail of money being sent to Middle Eastern terrorists. (What a shame that this will be the last time we are able to watch Philip perform.) The cast made up mainly of American actors really pulled this script off.
The suspense in this film was done well, not much bad language, no nudity or sex, it didn't need any.
Hope you will consider watching this one.

Mr. and Mrs. Murder, an Australian tv series
This is the first in a series from Australia. What an interesting take on a crime series.
Nicola and Charlie Buchanan, run a "haz-med" cleaning service for the local police force. Police detective Peter Vinetti, infatuated with Nicola ( even in front of Charlie )
is always referring their cleaning services after the crimes.
This series takes a different view on crime scene investigations. Nicola and Charlie are usually the ones who solve the cases due to their meticulous cleaning abilities.
Charlie is a man for all seasons, he has knowledge of so many cultures, historic events, etc., a walking talking encyclopedia, with a flair for wit and humor. Nicola is the brave one, always sticking her finger in something and testing it by tasting it!
Hope you will consider this really fun series. We really enjoyed watching it.

Quote of the Day------Goodreads
One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it. Three, if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don't throw it away.

Happy 73rd birthday, Stephen Hawking! When the astrophysicist wrote A Brief History of Time, his publisher said that every mathematical equation in the book would cause readership to go down by 50 percent. Hawking heeded their advice and included just one: E=mc2. The book has sold nearly 10 million copies.

I think the writing of literature should give pleasure. What else should it be about? It is not nuclear physics. It actually has to give pleasure or it is worth nothing.
