At the end of some programs on NPR, different hosts are asking listeners to suggest songs that might be good for those who are separated from the ones they love at these times. Well, I have 3 songs that come to mind
From this album there are 2 "Dedicated to the One I Love" and "Dream a Little Dream of Me"
And then, of course, there is Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to say I Love You"
These have such deep meaning.
And then there is this Song of the Civil Rights movement, the words are very strong and inspiring at this time
Take care, be strong and be well........
Here are some more movie titles that we have watched. Once again in no particular order -- I am going to add some comments.....
The Boyfriend A New Leaf The Misfits 👎👎👎
What Women Want Wind The Night of the Iguana
Music Teacher 👍👍👍👍👍 (If you love opera and great music)
Cookie's Fortune
The New Leaf is my husband's ALL time favorite, he is not much of a belly laugher, but this one always gets him, maybe it's the 275 GTB Ferrari (I sure love that model), maybe it is just the great timing between Elaine May and Walter Matthau, but whatever it is, it always gets laughs from him.
I know that at the time The Misfits was considered pretty good, in today's movie industry it would have a hard time being made for several reasons. First reason is the animal cruelty, IF you are a horse lover, this is NOT for you! Also mention of killing of eagles..... Then there are the sexual overtones towards Marilyn Monroe's character --- I kept thinking "Harvey Weinstein"....... I believe it was the last movie that Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe both made, I do remember that it came out when we were in North Africa, don't know if I saw it then or not. Won't watch it again for sure.
My husband does not remember The Music Teacher, but I know just about every scene by heart. Stars Jose Van Dam, fantastic opera singer, and the music is incredible - in French with subtitles, but don't let that stop you!
Wind is for every sailor out there ----- based on the America's cup race at Fremantle, but not an accurate account of that race... Anyway, if you enjoy sailing and haven't seen it, the racing scenes will take your breath away. Someone gave it to us years ago, we never watched it, we don't know why, but it was worth the wait, while we sit out the Covid crisis.... Since my husband is the helmsman on the Mei Li he really ENJOYED this one.
Tonight I get to pick and the movie will be...........
I just read in the current issue of the Stanwood/Camano News that the Stillaguamish Tribe (Washington state) donated $300,000 to the Stanwood/Camano Food Bank (also to the Arlington Food Bank)
The above is their tribal logo.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the Stillaguamish tribe for this very generous and loving action, especially during this time of Covid-19.
May the Spirits bless all the members of your Tribe.
As I mentioned in my most recent post, my husband and I have been watching movies that we have purchased over the past 30 or so years. I thought I would share some titles with you ----- what is nice is we don't have to pay for them through Netflix or Amazon or Hulu....... And most of them are so much better than what has been coming out of Hollywood for the past several years - well, we think so.
First, they are not in any particular order.........
Pretty In Pink Priscilla Queen of the Desert Splash
Princess Bride Ruthless People Rustler's Rhapsody
Sleeper Annie Hall Best Exotic Marigold Hotel The Intern
Far From the Madding Crowd (original with Julie Christie)
Empire of the Sun Finding Forrester Clockwise Billy Elliott
Great Outdoors Grumpier Old Men Private Benjamin
Overboard Gods Must Be Crazy Funny Girl Funny Lady
Blowup (with David Hemmings) The Tango Lesson
The Man with One Red Shoe Roxanne Housekeeping
Romancing the Stone Jewel of the Nile Local Hero
There's a Girl in My Soup To Catch a Thief
The Girl with the Mona Lisa Smile Mystic Pizza
Il Postino (The Postman) The Good Year
Bucket List The Visitor Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Well, as Diane Keaton says in Annie Hall
"Well, Lah de dah, lah de dah"
Maybe you can find some of these on demand.........
And tonight we will watch...... Tune in next time!
Been off the air for several weeks, have no internet at home --- yes, I know, dinosaurs we are..........
We are well, doing things at home, and work related (library).
For over 30 years my husband and I have purchased countless VHS tapes, and DVDs - our DVD player was one of the last models to still have VHS capacity. So in these troubling times we have been watching a movie every night --- he picks one, I pick one. We have SO many movies that we will NEVER see the same one twice in OVER a year! What is even more surprising, is that we have movies we have never watched, so we are having lots of "New and Exciting" movies. Some were watched so long ago, that we don't even remember them!
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Take care, stay strong and LISTEN TO THE SCIENTISTS AND MEDICAL EXPERTS!, not the yo-yo's in the WH.
Since our illustrious leader seems to think he KNOWS everything............. And in LIGHT of the COVID-19 spreading world wide, and according to him it is a HOAX brought on by the Democrats..... This thought for the day is JUST FOR HIM
" He who knows, does not speak. He who speaks, does not know." Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher.
Good luck, now that you've been exposed, possibly to COVID-19, Draft Dodger in Chief!
We recently watched this documentary about John Curry, the first openly gay figure skater in Olympic history.
Growing up in England at a time when it was frowned upon by many for men to be ballet dancers, which was what John wanted to be originally, but told by his father NO!, John turned to ice skating, and the world of ice skating is a better place for that direction.
It is painful at times to watch, in retrospect knowing what we know now about HIV/AIDS epidemic and how it came to be......
Putting that aside, John was one of the most graceful skaters ever ----- we have been watching skating since the late 1960's, so we have seen a few. None of the current skaters have the grace or finesse that John had.
One of the most beautiful skating moment in the film is when he skated with a lovely young woman to the music of "Afternoon of a Faun".
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
