Oops! wrong movie called to podium

Imagine my surprise when the radio alarm clock set to NPR went off this morning - Market Place announcer discussing Moonlight having won the Oscar!

I was rooting for Moonlight over La La Land - when Faye Dunaway called La La Land to receive the Oscar, I flipped over to the local news, they hadn't gotten the update at that time either, so they announced that La La Land had won. It looked like diversity in Hollywood had once again lost out.

But Hooray what a moment it was for everyone!  That the producer of La La Land was dignified and showed the audience that in fact the wrong title had been called out.

Wonder whose head is going to roll over this one?

Is he using Air Force One for a campaign rally?

WASHINGTON — After a month of arduous and, at times, turbulent governing, President Donald Trump returned Saturday to what he really loves: Campaigning — and bashing the media.

Trump didn’t declare what, exactly, he was campaigning for in Melbourne, Florida, after flying in from his Mar-a-lago estate, but he was greeted by 9,000 supporters at Orlando-Melbourne International Airport, localaid.

Trump, ready for some relief from the confines of Washington and the limitations of the house he ran to occupy, reverted back to the campaign-style event, basking in what energized him for months during the slog of the presidential campaign: The adulation of his supporters — and attacks on the press.

“The dishonest media, which has published one false story after another, with no sources, even though they pretend they have them — they make them up in many cases, they just don’t want to report the truth and they have been calling us wrong now for two years — they don’t get it, but they are starting to get it,” Trump said Saturday.

Trump touched on a variety of campaign promises he pledged he would enact as president, including calls to bring jobs back to the US and replace Obamacare. He also spoke of the need to keep terrorists out of the US and criticized judges who blocked his executive order on immigration.
“If you have a college education you can understand it. If you have a high school education, you can understand it. If you were a bad student in high school, you can understand it,” Trump said, talking about the original ban.

White House aides took a hands-off approach to Saturday's event, which is being run by Trump's 2016 campaign, Donald J. Trump for President Inc.

If he is using Air Force One, I believe he is in violation of the law - he needs to be using his own private plane if he is indeed campaigning for the next election!

Man Called Ove, movie

Watched this movie last night, based on the novel same title, by Fredrik Backman.
Very closely followed the book.
The actors cast were excellent!
LOVED the actor who portrayed Ove! He really did a marvelous job.
A possible movie to purchase!
Really touched my heart.

Write to the United States Republican Senators

Have you had enough yet?  Fake News, Alternative Facts, pushing of daughter's products in front of the U.S. seal, and on and on.......

Here's a website that will connect you to all the U.S. Senators
   https://www.senate.gov/senators/contact/

I have already written to the Speaker of the House, Mitch McConnell, Lamar Alexander, Orrin Hatch, Charles Grassley, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn and Senator John McCain.

The irony of Lamar Alexander's address is that his office is in the Dirksen Senate Office Bldg.  The Late Senator Everett Dirksen was willing to work with those across the aisle - LBJ, Mike Mansfield, and Hubert Humphrey to name just three Democrats, which I pointed out to Lamar.

DON'T send emails they can be easily deleted.  SEND snail mail that will be physically delivered to their offices, and will have to be handled by their staffs!!!!!!!

Protesters Give Congressional folks a taste of their displeasure

CBS NEWS reports

In the Trump era, congressional town halls are packed with protesters

Protests are being heard in Congressional town halls across the country.

“Do your job! Do your job!” protesters shouted in Utah’s third district. GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz is not used to getting booed in his reliably red district. But on Thursday night, he knew what was coming -- because his GOP colleagues have faced similar anger in their districts.
At a town hall meeting in California’s fourth district, audience members shouted “boo!” at GOP Rep. Tom McClintock. In Colorado’s 6th district, Rep. Mike Coffman told his constituents “let’s not yell at each other.”

“Putting the insurance companies back in charge is wrong,” an audience member told Rep. Justin Amash about the Republican push to repeal Obamacare.
In Grand Rapids on Thursday night, Amash stood his ground.

“We need to find ways to handle this issue not at the federal level,” Amash responded.

But others, like Coffman, beat a hasty retreat.

“He snuck out, and he snuck out early! He snuck out early,” a bystander sa
id.

McClintock had to be escorted out by police.

“This is what democracy looks like! This is what democracy looks like!” people shouted outside McClintock’s town hall.

Most of the protesters are frustrated Democrats, taking a page from the Tea Party movement that sprung up to oppose Obamacare in 2009.

In Florida this weekend, Gus Bilirakis was confronted by a pediatrician, who said Obamacare had helped his patients.

Health care is not the only flashpoint. Chaffetz was also grilled about the president’s travel ban, and his conflicts of interest.
The protests are already having an impact. Some Republicans are talking are repairing Obamacare rather than replacing and and President Trump said repeal and replace would happen almost immediately, now he says it could be 2018.

Time for the president to understand the separation, and equal powers, of the 3 branches of our government, and that he is NOT the Supreme leader of EVERYONE!

Charles Krauthammer's editorial Everett Herald 2-10-17

As you are aware by now, I don't normally agree with Charles' point of view, however, his editorial in today's (2-10-17) Everett Herald is absolutely RIGHT ON the MARK!

Thanks Charles.

Sully, a movie

Based on the U. S. Airways flight, captained by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, that landed on the Hudson River, this film is quite "riveting".

We very much "enjoyed" this film, all things considered.

What a Miracle -

Well worth watching.

Eve of Destruction by Bob Dylan lyrics

Following are the lyrics to Bob Dylan's song       Eve of Destruction
Make sure you read them VERY carefully..... especially after all that has occurred in the past several day......

Bob Dylan – Eve Of Destruction Lyrics

The eastern world it is explodin'
Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin'
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin'

But you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
Can't you feel the fears that I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy

And you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'

And you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space
But when your return, it's the same old place
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door-neighbor, but don't forget to say grace

And you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction
You don't believe we're on the eve of destruction
Are you paying ATTENTION YET?
